SUMMARY:TOM Talks
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by TED Talks\, TOM Talks is a student-run discussion series hosted by the Washington Fellows scholars that allows students to present independent research.  \nThis year\, talks include: Mazat Alafandi ’20\, Terrorism is Not a Religion; Dominic Gray ’22\, Your Life is in Your Own Hands; Preston Evans ’22\, Games: What We Can Learn and How They Can Teach; and Elisa Yazdani ’20\, Will Marijuana Affect More Than Just Me? \nThe talks are free and open for public attendance. All are invited to join as these W&J students contribute to the global dialogue on current events and other important issues. \nWashington Fellows are part of a selective program for exceptional students at Washington & Jefferson College who want to challenge themselves in their years at W&J. Candidates are students who seek an in-depth engagement in the liberal arts and sciences\, for the betterment of themselves and the world. \nIn the spring of 2015\, the Fellows were so engaged by their group discussions that they decided to host their own TED Talks event to present their ideas.  They dubbed the new presentation series “Tom Talks” in honor of Thomas Jefferson\, one of the College’s namesakes.
