SUMMARY:One Third of a Nation
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday April 4-6\, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.\nMatinee: Saturday at 2 p.m. \n*Free and open to the public \nIn the 1930’s\, before there were documentaries\, the Federal Theatre Project created “Living Newspapers.” These were intended to package and present information to the masses in an entertaining format\, using the trusted reference of the newspaper. \nThe most successful of these was “One Third of a Nation.” \n“One Third of a Nation” was first produced in 1938 as part of the Federal Theatre Project (FTP)\, an effort of the Works Progress Administration. It focuses on poverty and slum housing\, examining the issue’s background\, human consequences\, and possible solutions. \nThough set during the Depression era\, it’s theme is still relevant: it is a story of the disenfranchised and their struggle to remain “noble” in the face of their environment.
