As a continuing endeavor\, Mullis builds a make-believe forest that is the resurrection space for her childhood self. The invented ceremonial landscape becomes a place where Mullis questions the ability to remember\, re-enliven\, and retain childlike attributes.\nSidney Mullis lives and works in Pittsburgh\, PA. Mullis received a BA in Studio Art from the University of Mary Washington\, Fredericksburg\, VA and an MFA in Sculpture from Penn State University\, University Park\, PA.

DESCRIPTION:Unbought features the stories of three African American women: journalist and women’s suffrage activist Ida B. Wells; Sally Hemings\, the slave with whom Thomas Jefferson fathered six children; and Shirley Chisholm\, the first African American Congresswoman from New York and first African American woman to run for President. The title of the show derives from Shirley Chisholm’s memoir\, “Unbought and Unbossed.” The musical score features jazz\, folk\, popular and classical works by African American composers.
