Challenges

Thanks to the support of generous alumni, we will have the opportunity to maximize your gifts made on Day of Giving, Feb. 21, 2022. This means that not only will your personal contribution on Day of Giving make a difference, but you will help unlock even more financial support that directly improves all areas of the College.

Be sure to check back as additional challenges are added throughout the day to help us reach more than $90,000 in additional funding for your favorite departments and programs!

General Challenges

500 Presidents for $45,000 Challenge

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Frank Rumore '63 and Dr. Deborah Preston, this day-long challenge allows for up to $45,000 in bonus funds to be matched to support the W&J Fund when we reach 500 donors. This challenge is based solely on participation, so even gifts of $5 made on February 21 will get us closer to securing $45,000 in additional, unrestricted funds for the College!

Early Bird Challenge

Grab your coffee! It's time to kick off the first few hours of W&J Day of Giving with an early-bird challenge. If 100 donors make a gift before 9 a.m. EST, Brenden P. Kelley '12 and Lynn Arko Kelley '77 will award $2,500 to the W&J Fund.

Never made a gift to Washington & Jefferson College? Then this challenge is for you! The 50th person to make a first-time gift (to any area of campus) on W&J Day of Giving will unlock a $5,000 matching gift thanks to the generosity of a committed alumnus.

Take Your Pick Impact Challenge

Support your favorite department, program, or cause on W&J Day of Giving, and you could make an even greater impact! Every hour from 9 a.m. EST until 7 p.m. EST on February 21, one donor will be randomly selected to have $250 given to the area of the College they chose to support thanks to the generosity of Dan Martin '10. Follow along on the W&J Alumni Facebook Page to see hourly winners announced in real time.

An anonymous young alumnus is challenging all graduates of the last decade! If 100 alumni from the class years 2011 - 2021 make a gift of $5 or more to the W&J Fund before 11:59 p.m. EST, he will award $2,500 to the W&J Fund.

Give to GREEK Challenge

Your fraternity or sorority information is already part of your alumni record. When you make a gift to any area of the College during W&J Day of Giving, whether via any of our online forms or mailed in to us, it will automatically be counted for your Greek organization in the Give to Greek Challenge. Spouses representing two Greek organizations will earn credit for both. The Greek organization with the most donors will receive a bonus $500 for their organization. (Winning Greek organization will be announced Feb. 25.)

Academic/Athletic Challenges

THINK Big for Academics Challenge

Richard Crosbie '65 is challenging all alumni to make a gift of $5 or more to the academic department that means the most to them. The top four academic departments with the most donors by 11:59 p.m. EST will receive $1,250 in bonus dollars for their departments. (Winning departments will be announced Feb. 25.)

SCORE Big for Athletics Challenge

Four anonymous alumni are challenging student-athletes, students, parents, and friends to make a gift of $5 or more to the W&J Athletics team that means the most to them. Both the top two male and top two female sports with the most donors by 11:59 p.m. EST will be awarded $1,000 in bonus dollars for their programs. (Winning programs will be announced Feb. 25.)

The Jim White Fund Challenge

An anonymous alumnus is challenging all alumni wrestlers to make a gift to the Jim White Fund, established in honor of former wrestling coach Jim White, in this dollar-for-dollar challenge!
