WASHINGTON, PA (Sept. 14, 2017)— Carlie Trosclair is bringing her unique point of view to Olin Art Gallery with her exhibit, “letters from a domicile.”
Hailing from St. Louis, Mo., Trosclair will bring her work to Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) from Sept. 22 to Oct. 22, and will speak to guests at her gallery opening at 6 p.m. Sept. 22.
Trosclair’s work explores spaces as living organisms and examines how they change over time, with a focus on what makes a house a home.
“Even when a house sits gutted and abandoned, the presence of the body still lingers,” Trosclair writes in her artist statement. “Architectural components carry with them the layered histories of previous residents. These become the shells we leave behind. Relics of habitation and home-making.”
Approached through a lens of reordering and discovery, Trosclair’s exhibit adds a new level to existing parts of home that examines the space between development and deconstruction.
Trosclair received her MFA from Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. and her BFA from Loyola University, New Orleans, La.
*All Olin Fine Art Gallery events and exhibitions are free and open to the public. The Gallery is located at 285 East Wheeling Street in Washington, Pa. It is open Monday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m. during exhibition dates. The Gallery is closed during college breaks.
