Baseball, Lacrosse Teams Earn Spots at NCAA Championships

WASHINGTON, PA (May 24, 2017) – Two teams from Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) have put their skills on display in NCAA competitions.

W&J’s baseball team earned its first NCAA regional championship and College World Series appearance in program history by defeating SUNY Cortland in the final of the 2017 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. The Presidents will make their College World Series debut when they take on Concordia University on May 26.

The team earned their spot in the series when they made a six-run charge after falling behind 3-0 early in the game, claiming a 6-3 victory over Cortland. The win comes at the end of the team’s 38-11 season, with a 21-3 conference record.

W&J’s women’s lacrosse team also made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history on May 14. The Presidents close their season with an overall record of 13-5, their fifth season since 2009 with 13 wins and the second in a row.
