WASHINGTON, PA (Sept. 16, 2016) - The Center for Energy Policy & Management (CEPM) at Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) will open its fourth season of the Energy Lecture Series on Sept. 20. at 7 p.m. in the Howard J. Burnett Center on the W&J campus.
The first session, “Unlocking Energy Efficiency: Fueling Our Future With Today’s Lost Energy,” is free and open to the public.
“Unlocking Energy Efficiency” will feature two speakers: Michael Blackhurst, Ph.D., a research manager at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Social & Urban Research (UCSUR), and Neil Donahue, Ph.D., the Lord Professor of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering & Engineering and Public Policy, and the director of the Steinbrenner Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.
As Blackhurst and Donahue will discuss, the United States uses less than half of all energy generated to heat homes, light cities, or power the economy. Blackhurst and Donahue will discuss inefficiencies in the system, and how tackling them can help the environment, improve the health of the population, and save money.
"The CEPM is proud to continue the Energy Lecture Series throughout the 2016-17 academic year,” said CEPM Director Corey Young. “With the assistance of the Science Ambassadors Program, we have lined up first-class speakers who will share a wealth of knowledge and expertise on energy efficiency issues with the region."
The College has again partnered with the Science & Engineering Ambassadors, a Pittsburgh-based program of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering, to present the 2016-17 Energy Lecture Series. This four-part series will explore how recapturing today’s lost energy can pave the way to an affordable, sustainable energy future.
