Acknowledgment of Funding and Certification
Washington & Jefferson College reviewed, signed, and submitted the Certification and Agreement to the U.S. Department of Education for student CARES Act funds on June 16, 2020. In keeping with the terms of the certification, W&J will distribute no less than the required amount of the funds received to provide HEERF grants to students.
On June 19, 2020, the amount of funds that the College received from the Department according to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students was $667,164.
On January 17, 2021, the College was notified that an additional $667,164 supplemental emergency aid was made available under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021(CRRSAA). The total amount available for emergency grants under both acts was $1,334,328.
On May 20, 2021, the College was notified that an additional $1,712,747 supplemental emergency aid was made available under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARP). The total amount available for emergency grants under the three acts is now $3,046,475.

As of December 31, 2021, the total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES, CRRSAA, and ARP Act is $3,046,475.

As of Q4, Washington & Jefferson College has received a total of $3,046,475 in Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds for students, of which $3,046,475 has been provided directly to students as emergency financial aid grants required by the law.

Student Eligibility
The number of unduplicated Washington & Jefferson College students eligible to receive an emergency grant is 1,915. As of December 31, 2021, 1,914 students have received a HEERF emergency grant.
Methods Used to Determine Which Students Receive Aid and How Much
Any student who is or was enrolled at W&J on or after March 13, 2020, the date of the national emergency declaration, is eligible for funding. Therefore, international students, withdrawn students, and students who established enrollment for the first time in Fall 2021 are eligible for emergency grants. Initial grant payments were made to all eligible students. Students who self-identified as exceptionally needy received an additional grant payment under each allocation of HEERF funding.

The American Rescue Plan was signed into law on March 11, 2021. The Plan provided additional funding to the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund (HEERF III). Institutions receiving funds under the Plan are directed to provide the information below in a format and location easily accessible to the public.

The Act provided additional funding to the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund (HEERF II). Institutions receiving funds under the Act are directed to provide the information below in a format and location easily accessible to the public.

Washington & Jefferson College reviewed, signed, and submitted the Certification and Agreement to the U.S. Department of Education for student CARES Act funds on June 16, 2020. The total number of Washington & Jefferson College students that received an emergency grant under HEERF II is 1421.
Methods Used to Determine Which Students Receive Aid and How Much
Currently, enrolled students, students on an approved leave of absence, and students who graduated at any time since the national emergency was declared on March 13, 2020, were eligible. Students must be U.S. Citizens to qualify. Students meeting these criteria were provided an initial emergency financial aid grant of $400.
Students who previously received an emergency financial aid grant under HEERF II were allowed to self-identify as exceptionally needed. Two hundred fifty-six students self-identified as exceptionally needy and were issued a second emergency cash grant for $386. This amount was determined by allocating the remaining funds equally among students who self-identified as exceptionally needy.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020. The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), found in Section 18004 of the CARES Act, provides funding to institutions of higher education. Institutions, like Washington & Jefferson College, receiving funds under Section 18004 of the Act are directed to provide the information below in a format and location that is easily accessible to the public 30 days after the date when the institution received its allocation under 18004(a)(1) and updated 45 days thereafter.
Acknowledgment of Funding and Certification
Washington & Jefferson College reviewed, signed, and submitted the Certification and Agreement to the U.S. Department of Education for student CARES Act funds on June 16, 2020. In keeping with the terms of the certification, W&J has distributed 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants directly to students.

Student Eligibility
The total number of Washington & Jefferson College students potentially eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and meeting institutional regulations therefore eligible to receive CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid Grants is 1094. Of those eligible students, 1058 have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
Students who have received Emergency Financial Aid Grant
During Phase I, 1030 students received the Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. During Phase II, an additional 28 students received the Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. $667,195 in Emergency Cash Grants have been distributed to date.
Methods Used to Determine Which Students Receive Aid and How Much
Students had to have been enrolled at W&J as of March 27, 2020 and experienced a disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of that group, those that had submitted a 2019-2020 and/or a 2020-2021 FAFSA were identified as Title IV eligible. Of these eligible students, W&J issued an emergency cash grant in the amount of $500. That is based on the philosophy that a family was receiving $500 per dependent through that particular stimulus funding.
Students who at some point submitted a FAFSA to W&J, but had not submitted a 2019-2020 and/or 2020-2021 FAFSA, were offered the opportunity to complete an internal form. The form asked students to either submit the 2019-2020 and/or 2020-2021 FAFSA, or self-certify their eligibility for Title IV funds. W&J Financial Aid staff reviewed these applications and determined eligibility for the HEERF funds. These students were issued an emergency cash grant in the amount of $500.
Students who previously received the HEERF fund were also afforded the opportunity to complete an internal, appeal form. This form allowed students to indicate their expenses beyond the initial amount of the HEERF fund offered to them and request additional CARES Act funding. Students who appealed were issued an emergency cash grant in the amount of $747. This amount was determined by allocating the remaining funds equally among students who submitted the appeal form.
