Writing Center

The Writing Center is committed to providing service and support to the students of Washington & Jefferson College. Our core mission is to help each student grow as a writer and to empower student writers to claim and effectively utilize their individual voices. In pursuit of this goal, our peer tutors provide prioritized writing feedback to meet each student's individual writing needs.

Founded on W&J's motto of "Together We Thrive," the Writing Center engages student writers in one-on-one tutoring conversations on all kinds of writing. From brainstorming and drafting to revising and editing, peer tutors help students not only to improve their writing, but also to feel more confident in their writing. Working together, the tutor and student confer on the writing project at hand, discuss the student's writing concerns and the tutor's suggestions, and develop a plan for the project's next steps. Through meeting with a writing tutor, students foster agency over their writing and productive reflection on their writing process.

At the Writing Center, student writers learn to think critically, communicate clearly, and successfully transfer their writing skills.
