WASHINGTON, PA (Oct. 13, 2015) — The Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) Office of Study Abroad will hold two more events this fall to introduce W&J students to study abroad opportunities.

The next Semester Abroad Showcase is Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the Media Room of The Commons.

Office of Study Abroad Director Sara Kochuba said the Showcase provides a unique opportunity for W&J students who are considering an international experience to hear from their peers who have recently returned from spending a semester overseas. Kochuba will present information about study abroad opportunities at W&J, and then students will hear from and be able to ask questions of W&J students who already have had the experience.

Rachel Reyher, a W&J junior who spent five months studying at Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France, will speak at an upcoming Showcase event.

“To prepare for my semester abroad, I talked with multiple students who had studied abroad at various locations, as well as students who studied in Montpellier or were from Montpellier,” said Reyher, a French and Spanish double major. “I saw presentations from those students as well. The presentations were helpful because I was able to listen to the experiences and see pictures, as well as ask questions that I may not have asked had I not heard them speak.”

W&J offers almost 40 approved, semester-long study abroad programs with universities and organizations in nearly two dozen countries, including The Gambia, South Africa and Egypt, China, Japan, Australia, and various countries throughout Europe and Latin America.

Kochuba said studying abroad does much more for students than improve their foreign language skills; the experience can strengthen resumes, allow students to study their major in its context, gain insights into both foreign and American cultures, and allow students to learn more about themselves.

The final Showcase event of the fall semester will be held Nov. 19, also at 5:30 p.m. in the Media Room. Snacks will be available and all attendees will be eligible for prizes at the event.
