WASHINGTON, PA (May 10, 2019)—Five senior economics majors presented their capstone research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland as part of their 2019 Undergraduate Research Poster Competition in early May.
Cian Kelly ’19 placed second in the finance division of the competition and Maya Nilkant ’19 placed third in the economics division. The students presented the following projects:
- Cian Kelly, “Economic and Financial Indicators to Predict Recovery Out of Recessions.”
- Maya Nilkant, “An Economic Analysis of OBRA 1986 and its Impact on Access to Prenatal Care and Fertility Outcomes for Low Income Women.”
- Aaron Kendrick ’19, “Income Inequality, All-Cause Mortality, and Stroke Mortality Reexamined.”
- Ghaith Al-Hajiri ’19, “The Impace of State Alcohol and Fuel Taxes on Traffic Fatalities Amongst Adults and Teenagers.”
- Sarah Dodd ’19, “Education as a Method of Reducing Juvenile Crime.”
Other participants were from Allegheny College, Case Western Reserve University, Bowling Green State University, Edinboro University, University of Akron, and Northern Kentucky University.
After graduation Maya will work for United Health Group in Washington DC, Cian will work for Key Bank in Cleveland, Aaron will attend medical school at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and Sarah will attend graduate school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Ghaith is considering various options.
