WASHINGTON, PA (April 17, 2019)— During her college search, Ke’alohi Worthington ’19 knew she wanted to go somewhere completely different from where she grew up, in her native state of Hawaii. She found the perfect connection nearly 4,700 miles away from home at Washington & Jefferson College (W&J).

Ke’alohi discovered W&J through her mother, alumna Janice Durham Worthington ’85. Her mom always displayed her W&J diploma in her office, but Ke’alohi never paid attention to it until her mother encouraged her to check out the College.

She arrived on campus in the fall of 2015 and immediately began adjusting to her new home. She became a resident assistant for the Office of Residence Life and recently became a lab assistant for neuroscience labs, complimenting her neuroscience major. One of her most impactful experiences came once again from her mother’s suggestion: Ke’alohi’s sisterhood with Delta Gamma sorority.

“My mom encouraged me. She knew how prominent it was on campus, and wanted me to be a part of it,” she said.

As a member of Delta Gamma, Ke’alohi joined W&J Sorority Life’s Panhellenic Council, and served as council president during her junior year. At first she was nervous about taking on the position, but after receiving encouragement from others in the Greek system, she accepted the role based on the impact it could have on the W&J community.

“How else could you get change without growth?” she mused.

Ke’alohi’s pursuit of growth will continue post-graduation. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, where she will pursue a master’s in public health with a concentration in epidemiology.
