WASHINGTON, PA (Oct. 5, 2016) - Students now have a personalized way to keep track of their grades on their phones, thanks to a mobile app created by a Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) junior.

Jordan Bechek designed Student’s Edge so that classmates would have a way to personalize their academic experience. The app allows users to input their courses, assignments and due dates, grades, and their “goal” grade for each class. It then calculates the score students need to achieve on their upcoming tests and assignments to reach their goal.

“I think it will really help students,” said Bechek, a Computing and Information Studies major from Gibsonia, Pa.  “It will consolidate all your grades into one place and track classes over multiple years, if you want it to. It will tell you your GPA and how many goals you’ve been meeting, and has a schedule option so you know when assignments are coming up.”

Bechek began working on the app last spring as a project for an advanced web course. By the end of the semester, he had drawn out the concept and done a basic design and decided not to stop there. He spent the summer working independently to finish building the app, and launched it at the beginning of September.

Student’s Edge is free, and is available for iPhone and Android devices through iTunes and Google Play.

“It hasn’t been out that long, but for the people who downloaded it so far, it’s been well received,” he said. “I want more people to know about it. I think it can be really useful.”
