WASHINGTON, PA (March 1, 2017) - Washington & Jefferson College’s (W&J) popular Winter Tales will be back again for its 15th year March 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Fine Arts Center Theatre. Admittance to these performances is free and open to the public.
This year, there will be 11 original one-act, 10-minute plays written by members of the W&J community, including students and staff. Some plays feature mature content, and may not be suitable for audience members younger than age 14.
Most of the playwrights are students, eager to showcase their work during the event.
“I am very excited to be a playwright for this year's Winter Tales and to have my work performed on stage in front of an audience,” said Amiti Sharma.
Another playwright, Ty Greenwood, is looking forward to this year’s Winter Tales for his own reasons.
“I am most excited and very fortunate that two of my plays have been chosen for this year’s Winter Tales and I am excited to see them come to life,” he said.
These plays will be performed by W&J students in a staged reading. It will bring dramatic performances to the audience, whose members will have to use their imagination to expand the scene. One playwright, Jacky Anderson, loves this aspect of the performance.
“Voice acting is difficult, but so fulfilling. When you are moving on stage, it is so easy to show emotion. At Winter Tales, our voice needs to convey all our emotion,” she said. “Watching Winter Tales is a great introduction to theatre if you've never tried before.”
Ty also loves how unique Winter Tales is compared to other theater productions put on by the college.
“What makes these performances different is the fact that they are all original works. It is always nice to see what everyone comes up with and what stories they tell,” he said.
“Knowing that these plays were written and performed by members of the W&J community makes you proud to be a President,” said Jacky. “These students have worked so hard to see their work come to life, and they hope that everyone will enjoy what they have prepared for us.”
