WASHINGTON, PA (October 12, 2015) - The Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) Arts Series continues Oct. 27 with Jeffrey Siegel’s Keyboard Conversations, “Classics Go Pop!” at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Fine Arts Center theatre.
This performance will showcase a wide arrangement of music, from Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata to Ritual Fire Dance of de Falla and will include a question-and-answer session after the performance. Tickets are required, and can be reserved by contacting Olin Box Office at 724-223-OLIN (6546).
An experienced piano player, Siegel has an extensive performance resume. He has performed Keyboard Conversations throughout the United States, and has presented the concert in some cities for more than 40 years. This year, Siegel focuses on renditions of classical music; however, the W&J community should not expect the typical classical concert.
“Mr. Siegel puts on a very exciting and entertaining show, whether one knows music or not,” said Olin House Manager Arlene Shaw. He first talks about the piece, explaining the history and some fascinating facts about the composer and how the song came to be, and then plays it masterfully on the piano. Although this visit will showcase classical works, one should not anticipate it to be ‘stuffy’ or boring in any way.”
This is the second time Siegel has performed at W&J; in 2013 Siegel participated in the W&J Arts Series with Keyboard Conversations-Gershwin and Friends and presented a Master Class in piano.
With such an unusual twist to concerts, Shaw wanted to bring Siegel back to W&J because it is such a unique experience for concert attendees.
“[Olin Technical Director] Dan [Shaw] and I decided to bring him back because piano shows are well attended by the community,” said Shaw. “Mr. Siegel is a well-known, extremely talented, and respected musician; and he puts on an interesting show.”
