WASHINGTON, PA (Sept. 20, 2017) — As students return to their routines to Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) this fall, they’ll notice some positive changes across campus.
Facilities Services has been hard at work this summer on projects for campus improvement. Projects include painting, paving, landscaping, flooring, outfitting common areas with new furniture and improvements to campus Wi-Fi.
“We try to look at the things that are going to make the biggest difference to students,” said James Miller, associate vice president for Facilities and Planning.
To make sure the updates are accommodating student needs, Miller said the grounds crew is working with the Division of Student Life and the Office of Residence Life to find the best areas to upgrade.
“All these little projects, it’s kind of like building a pyramid. We have all these foundation pieces, but together, it encompasses the whole campus. When you’re building one new building, you have that new structure to show off, but it only touches a part of campus. When you’re in 25 buildings making a lot of small changes, it makes a much bigger difference,” Miller said.
Improvements to campus include updates to Rossin Campus Center and its outdoor patio; upgraded equipment in The Hub; a new air conditioning unit and new resources at the library; replacement of the ramp leading into Old Main, and new paint and lounge furniture in several residence halls.
