WASHINGTON, PA (May 15, 2015) — Washington & Jefferson (W&J) College’s 216th Commencement Ceremony saw nearly 300 Presidents join the ranks of W&J alumni, and the Class of 2015 is already leveraging their undergraduate accomplishments into successful careers.
Class members, representing a diversity of backgrounds, majors and paths to success, are poised to attend medical and law schools, contribute to volunteer and sustainability missions around the globe, take on big business with new ideas, and continue in the field of education – this time as teachers.
“We are extremely proud of what this class already has accomplished, and we look forward to seeing where the future takes them,” said Roberta Cross, Director of Career Services at W&J. “They are starting strong and making great career decisions, and it can only get better.”
Miriam Beavers will begin her career with the environmental consulting firm TGM Marketing. After working for a year, she plans to attend Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., where she has been accepted and will attend with a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. Beavers graduates from W&J with an environmental studies major and a double minor in sociology, and Gender and Women’s Studies.
Two graduates, Esmeralda Patricio and Jath DiCecco, have been accepted into the Teach for America program, a highly selective initiative that places participants in teaching positions in low-income communities. Patricio will teach middle and high school mathematics in the Houston, Texas area, and DiCecco will teach elementary school in Mississippi.
An active volunteer while at W&J, Jake Meyers will put his environmental studies major to use as a Peace Corps volunteer, working as an Environmental Action Advisor for Food Security in Benin, West Africa.
The Carnegie Mellon University Tartans will gain a President with Sara Mitchell, who has earned a full academic merit scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree in Information Security Policy and Management. Mitchell will graduate from W&J with a triple major in computing and information studies, German and history.
Joshua Tropp, who will graduate with an American Chemical Society Certified Chemistry major, plans to pursue a career in emergency medicine, and will begin by shadowing doctors at Georgetown University and completing research in Israel.
