WASHINGTON, PA (July 23, 2019)—Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) freshman Ryan Bannon ’23 earned the Big Waves Foundation’s inaugural Vaughn Bigelow Jr. Memorial Scholarship, named for Ryan’s friend and fellow water polo athlete.
The Big Waves Foundation was founded in memory of Vaughn Bigelow Jr. The scholarship is awarded to graduating high school water polo players who demonstrate a high degree of sportsmanship and are a positive role model for younger players.
“It's a huge honor to be chosen and it means that I have to strive every day and in everything I do to always be my best and to represent Vaughn's memory in an admirable way,” Ryan said.
Ryan volunteers with the City of Broomfield’s Therapeutic Recreation Program serving individuals with disabilities. He plans to study history and math at W&J.
“I chose W&J from the other schools I was accepted to because of its reputation for academics and the water polo program. I like the small size of W&J and the feel of the campus,” he said.
