WASHINGTON, PA (Feb. 10, 2014)—Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) continues making lists of best colleges and universities, according to a number of national publications.

W&J is ranked in the top 100, and 10th among Pennsylvania institutions, in U.S. News & World Report’s National Liberal Arts College Rankings. It is listed in the 2014 edition of the “Fiske Guide to Colleges,” which features 300 of the “best and most interesting” colleges and universities in the country, and The Princeton Review’s “The Best 378 Colleges.” Washington Monthly’s College Guide also has W&J ranked in the top 150 of the Best Liberal Arts Colleges and listed it as a good value on their “Best Bang for the Buck, Liberal Arts Colleges” list.

“W&J is pleased to be recognized as an institution that leads students to success. These lists are valuable resources that offer students important information they need to make the best decisions about their college careers,” said Al Newell, vice president of enrollment at W&J. “Our faculty and staff work very hard on behalf of our students. Our placement on these and other lists is the result of their dedication.”

U.S. News offers data on nearly 1,800 colleges and universities, including tuition, acceptance rates, class sizes, graduation rates, average debt of graduates and student outcomes. The Princeton Review’s annual college rankings lists are based entirely on feedback from current students. The “Fiske Guide to Colleges” looks at the personality of a school based on a broad range of subjects, including student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food and extracurricular activities.

Washington Monthly rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.Ds.) and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country). Washington Monthly’s “Bang for the Buck” is an exclusive list of the colleges in America that do the best job of helping non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. And it is a pretty exclusive list: out of the 1,572 colleges and universities in their broader rankings, only 349 made the cut as best-bang-for-the-buck schools.
