WASHINGTON, PA (July 25, 2019)—What do Beyoncé, Wale, Trey Songz and Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) senior Will Tucker ’20 have in common? They’ve all worked at Wire Road Studio in Houston, Texas.

With funding from W&J’s Franklin Internship Award, Will traveled to Houston to work in the studio as an audio technician assistant and business intern. The sociology major and English minor is excited to be following his dreams with support from the College.

“W&J encourages students to get out of their comfort zone and try something they only dreamed of doing,” Will said. “W&J has prepared me (for this internship) in several ways, but the most notable thing that W&J has given me is the ability to talk with important figures comfortably. I think it has to do with how small the school is and how personable the staff is.”

Being able to stay cool and calm in the work setting came in handy for Will when his boss called him in on his day off to work with popular artist Chance the Rapper.

“I was scared to death, but took the opportunity to work with someone I admired, and it proved to be one of the most exciting experiences,” he said.

Will previously traveled to Iceland and interviewed Sigtrggyr Baldursson, the managing director of Iceland Music, which works to promote work from Icelandic artists worldwide. He also has studied abroad in London and Athens. The experience in Iceland helped inform Will’s goals after graduation to work in a profession that allows him to connect society and art.

He feels confident he can achieve those goals thanks to the advice of his academic advisor, Associate Professor and Department Chair of Sociology John Krol, Ph.D., and the foundation he’s built at W&J.

“To be able to pursue something that has for the longest time been a dream means the world to me. I can’t thank W&J enough,” he said.
