WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2013)—Washington & Jefferson (W&J) College will commemorate its rich tradition, honor its alumni and showcase today’s campus through a variety of educational, athletic and social events at Homecoming & Reunion Weekend Sept. 27-28.

With a theme of “Remember the Memories and Recapture the Moments,” Homecoming this year will feature medical and legal lectures, a Veterans Memorial Service, a football game against conference rival Thiel College, and W&J’s annual Fifth Quarter event.

“Homecoming is a time for alumni to reconnect with old friends and the campus community,” Terese Hines, W&J’s director of alumni relations, said. “Events such as the welcome back reception, Homecoming dinner, football game and Fifth Quarter are the perfect settings for welcoming back our graduates. Homecoming is about remembering the past and looking toward the future of W&J.”

Homecoming events begin Friday, Sept. 27, at 9 a.m. with registration in the Alumni House (335 East Wheeling Street) through 4 p.m. Campus tours will be held throughout the afternoon. Friday evening’s events begin at 5 p.m. with the Veterans’ Memorial Service honoring members of the W&J community who have died serving their country, held at the flagpole in front of the John A. Swanson Science Center.

The Welcome Back Reception at 6 p.m. will be followed by the Homecoming dinner at 7 p.m., where four alumni will be honored: Betsey Hurwitz-Schwab ’74 and James Gismondi ’72 (posthumously), Distinguished Service Award; Richard Crosbie ’65, Alumni Award for Achievement; and Hollis Zemany McLachlan ’06 , Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, the annual W. Edward Sell ’45 Legal Lecture, “The Second Amendment: Refocusing its Aim, 222  Years later,” will be held in the Rossin Campus Center’s Allen Ballroom at 8:30 a.m., and the Dieter-Porter Medical Lecture, “Brave New Medicine: Robotics,” will begin at 9 a.m. in Room 100 of the Dieter-Porter Life Sciences Building.
