WASHINGTON, PA (April 2, 2015) – Tom Talks, a new discussion series presented by the Washington Fellows scholars of Washington & Jefferson College (W&J), will occur Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in Allen Ballroom of Rossin Campus Center on the W&J campus.
The talks are free and open for public attendance, and also will be streamed live online at https://washjeff.dev/. All are invited to join as these W&J students contribute to the global dialogue on current events and other important issues.
Washington Fellows are part of a selective program for exceptional students at Washington & Jefferson College who want to challenge themselves in their years at W&J. Candidates are students who seek an in-depth engagement in the liberal arts and sciences, for the betterment of themselves and the world.
In their first year, Fellows participate in the President’s Symposium, led by College President Tori Haring-Smith, Ph.D. Fellows meet roughly once a month outside of class to discuss cutting-edge research and controversial topics based on assigned articles and Ted Talks.
This spring, the Fellows were so engaged by discussions that the group decided to host their own Ted Talks event to present their ideas. Dubbed “Tom Talks” in honor of Thomas Jefferson, one of the College’s namesakes, six students were selected to present on a variety of topics for 10 minute segments.
Hosted by Peter Sobraske ‘18 and Blynn Shideler ’18, the Tom Talks will cover the following subjects:

Samuel Schaub ’18 – Communication without Hesitation
